El Nido is located on the western most island, Palawan, of the Philippines. It sits very near the top of the island and is the name of the municipality as well as a town.
You have to make an effort to get there, if sitting in a cramped van for 5 hours is effort, but it rewards in spades. Either that or you can fly direct from Manila, they really need to advertise that more!
I was meeting my mate, Richard, who is an underwater filming legend for some R&R after my volunteering stint in Bohol. We had no more of a plan than to meet in Puerto Princesa and get up to El Nido where we would decide where else on Palawan we would go. As it turns out we didn’t leave until it was time to return to Puerto to get the flight home, we enjoyed it that much.
We weren’t the only ones either; a number of friends from the volunteer base also came to El Nido, so with great company, amazing weather, stunning scenery, warm sand, cold beer and good food there was nothing left to want for apart from maybe a sledgehammer.
It wasn’t goodbye El Nido, definitely ¡Hasta luego!
